Headache is a symptom that everyone has experienced, whether severe or mild. Here, we will discuss only the non-serious types of headaches that can still cause us discomfort, mostly resulting from behaviors and environmental conditions we face, as follows:
- Screen addiction Due to the nature of many jobs requiring people to be in front of computer screens, staring at the screen for long periods makes our eyes work hard to adjust the image. Headaches occur due to eye strain, sometimes accompanied by tension, which can trigger pain around the eye sockets. Over time, tension headaches develop in the forehead and sometimes spread to the neck. Additionally, improper keyboard placement can further trigger both headaches and shoulder pain simultaneously. The solutions are:
- Choose a computer desk that fits your elbows so that your forearms can rest parallel to the floor for comfortable keyboard use. The chair height should be adjustable to allow your feet to rest flat on the floor. Having a backrest is even better, and placing a small pillow to support your back can help you sit comfortably for longer periods.
- Take breaks from computer work periodically but not to the extent of disrupting work. Taking a break every hour is sufficient to relieve eye strain and fatigue.
- Weather conditions Thailand is a hot country, and the heat varies daily. Headaches can easily occur. It is advisable to avoid exposure to extreme heat and drink water frequently to help lower body temperature.
- Dehydration is a major factor causing headaches, fatigue, lack of motivation, poor mood, and irritability. This condition is related to insufficient rest. When you have a headache, it may be during times of intense study or work, lack of exercise, easy stress, and poor posture while sitting or standing. Muscle tension occurs in the neck and around the head, and some may also experience neck and shoulder pain.
- Sleeping too little or too much Most people believe that sleeping a lot is good, but excessive sleep can also cause headaches. Some think that on weekends or holidays, they can sleep in late. In reality, sleeping more than 9 hours a day can make you feel like you haven’t had enough rest. The ideal sleep duration is 6.5-9 hours.
- Certain foods especially favorites among women like chocolate, fermented foods such as fermented rice noodles, papaya salad with crab or fermented fish sauce, and pickled fruits. Although these foods are delicious and flavorful, their aftereffects can be equally intense. It is advisable to change eating habits and switch to brain-nourishing foods such as brown rice, germ rice, whole grains, nuts, soy milk, green vegetables, and sea fish to help reduce your headaches.
